Before I Knew Me: Praying for God’s Will

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  It takes many believers years to come to the conclusion of praying for the will of God versus praying for our will to be done.  Truth is, there’s no special formula for God giving us the desires of our hearts but it shouldn’t stop us from trusting Him. Many scriptures are filled with comfort but God wants to bring change.Prayer changes things! It may not necessarily change our circumstances but it can change our perspective. It can change how we view what we're in which will help us in getting through it. Imagine if we viewed...

Before I Knew Me: Are You Ready?

Many of us feel we’re ready for the things we ask God for in prayer, but are we truly prepared to live up to, put in work for, and follow through with excellency?  I would venture to say a lot of us are not.  Being ready means completely prepared, in fit condition for immediate action versus being prepared - properly organized and equipped, keyword equipped. Picture a soldier his first day in boot camp:  Will he be ready for war that same day or must he go through the necessary training that will prepare him to face a battle?  Too often we go into battle without being prepared for the war, thus our defeats.  Training and preparation is necessary in all...

Before I Knew Me: Now I'm Free

Before I Knew Me, I'd experienced so many trials I'd never thought I was capable of bouncing back.  Let me share something with you.  Up until a few years ago I allowed the silence of my testimony, for fear of judgment, to hinder my progress and walking in my purpose.  My ultimate passion and purpose in life is to serve individuals who have been physically and sexually abused. Having experienced both and surviving the aftermath, I can now testify about the goodness of my God and how He brought me through. I was sexually molested at 14 years old by a 44-year old pastor who had been our family pastor for over 20 years. In the aftermath of the sexual abuse, I was physically abused...

Before I Knew Me: My Leap of Faith

Mid-April 2011 is when I decided to move to Dallas. I really didn't have a plan, didn't have another job lined up, didn't know anything about this city; all I had was my faith.  My situation in New Orleans was toxic, I wanted out. By end of May 2011 I was on the road, starting all over again with my daughter for the 3rd time at nearly 30 years old. I was at the lowest point of my life in New Orleans, I mean thee lowest. Mentally and physically drained, terribly depressed and acting like I had no sense. When I moved I knew I couldn't take that same attitude with me. You can change your environment but if your...

Before I Knew Me: God Knew Me

“Before I Knew Me” is inspired by the biblical scripture Jeremiah 1:5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I sanctified you;” this profound scripture holds so much depth and truth in context if you understand who God truly is.  His knowledge goes well beyond the time we came into existence.  No matter what situation we choose to enter or what situation God allows – He knows beforehand that we’d make it through – even when it looks like we’re headed for destruction.  Before discovering who I am in God, He had already purposed a plan for my life.  Before my parents even had a thought of my conception, God knew the...
